Without you

by natalie   Sep 18, 2007

Without you I would have lost myself
time and time again.
I never knew how dark it was
inside my lonely shell,
until you cracked it open.
The light shone bright into my eyes
and you were all I saw.
Now at midnight I think of you
and dawn streaks silver the sky,

Without you I have realised
how painful desire is
when love is unrequited.

The burning flame within my heart
retreats yet further still, but
if the mountains fell upon me now,
and crushed this fragile human shell
the flame would flicker on.

Without you I would have lost myself,
for you taught me how to feel.
You showed me who & what I was.
You made me laugh,
you made me cry.
And now on melancholy night,
I see you painted in the sky.
And when I look into the ocean blue,
I see your eyes and my love is renewed.
