The Kiss, Rough

by sibyllene   Sep 18, 2007

What a lovely painting
gold thrown so sensual
feeling implied
in dappled jewels scattered rich

romantic, ah yes
but pleasing? unlikely
see the stilted pose?
see the tension trapped?

she clings - in fear or passion?
toes curled, wracked with what?
so close to the edge
teetering yawning gap, ah, love

she turns away, coy or frightened,
oh, but see how her arm pulls him closer...
does she entrap herself?
held by her heart, as much as his arms

is there a second panel, I wonder?
showing the lovers, rent from the cliff's edge,
twisting through the air, grasping more to each other,
for solid ground they have abandoned

is there a third, showing the culmination
the final expression of this love-
the lovers dead, bodies broken like stained glass
on the floor of the pit of their own making?

Rough first draft. Referring to the painting by Gustav Klimt.
