A Sad Story

by Jason Partin   Sep 19, 2007

Looking in your eyes,
I see the color fade away.
The girl you were yesterday,
Is not the same girl today.

Your eyes,
Like a book I can read.
Tells the story of pain,
Struggling to be freed.

But no,
Your stare becomes silent,
Of the story it tells.
The book closes,
Another test that I fail.

I fail to see the cause,
Of all your withheld pain,
It's like a novel you've written,
And I see the space between.

The space between each line,
Of every sentence wrote on your heart,
I begin at the end,
Hoping to make it to the start.

I read you everyday,
With hopes of an end,
The end of a sad story,
But a new one we begin.

So keep this book open,
As I read through your tears,
And I can understand the pain,
In which one day I'll cure.
