Goodbye Angel

by Viola   Sep 21, 2007

She came back from work one day
And there on her front step
Was a letter in a little envelope
That had her name written in red
She didn't want to think about it
But she already knew what it held
Her heart hurt, a stab in the chest
As she quickly picked it up in her hands
And ran her fingers over the words
Somehow she gathered up that courage
To open it up and read
For his last words were inscribed inside
Carefully and neatly in a dark crimson ink
It read:

Don't worry baby, I'm in a better place
And I'll love you forever; I'll behold your grace
But I had to choose my own way out of this world
I hope one day you understand, until then I hope you know
In a place like heaven angels are everywhere
But none of them matter--You're the only one for me
So smile with those blue eyes the way you always did
Because when I look down upon you that's all I want to see
Now don't you cry, please dry those tears
Goodbye, angel...goodbye

And as she read her eyes filled with tears
Blurring her vision so she could hardly see
It made it hard to interpret those words
How much pain can be inflicted by just a single sheet?
That fell out of her hands as her heart crumbled
But in the midst of all that confusion and pain
She looked up at the dark night sky, and she whispered
"I hope you can see the sparkle in my eyes,
the way my hair falls on my face
and the wind moves my dress.
How I wish you could see me now..
but I know you'e in a better place
And I'll love you forever
Goodbye, angel...goodbye"

The days passed and she hid that letter away
Somewhere in her closet, where it would stay
Never to be seen by anybody else
But in the middle of the night
On the mark of his one year death
She went down to his grave
And with a smile on her face she read:

Don't worry baby, I'm in a better place
And I'll love you forever; I'll behold your grace
But I had to choose my own way out of this world
I hope one day you understand, until then I hope you know
In a place like heaven angels are everywhere
But none of them matter--You're the only one for me
So smile with those blue eyes the way you always did
Because when I look down upon you that's all I want to see
Now don't you cry, please dry those tears
Goodbye, angel...goodbye

And she whispered
Goodbye, angel...goodbye

Goodbye...
Goodbye...

With a smile on her face she looked up at the sky
And she whispered-- Goodbye.

** I don't know what this is about..I just happened to write it. I had an idea and by the end it turned out different than I originally intended it to, but I guess it's about dealing with the death of a loved one and moving on from it.
