A Life To Dream, A Dream To Live [Acrostic]

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Sep 22, 2007

Ambitions run through her wild eyes,

Living in the ghetto of her hometown, she`s
Isolated to conformity, vying to break
Free of this one-horse-town and
Escape; become all that she`s ever wanted

To be. The words play over and
Over inside of her head, her

Dream is dying, crystallizing to dust in her
Rapacious heart -- she`s gotta have it all, have
Everything within her grasp. She was one to
Always say she learned the way of life, that
Many don`t have anything at all to live for,

And sometimes, nothing was just enough.

Dusty, cracked-up windows don`t show a
Real enough view of the outside world; suffocation`s
Enveloped around her hazy room, screaming
Ambiguous thoughts into her pounding head. "But
Maybe this beaten down trailer is exactly what I need

To make my dreams come true" she argues under her
Over intoxicated breath; of course, who wins win you`re

Laden with excuses, arguing with yourself? Sturdy
Ivy branches wrap themselves around her wrists,
Vines holding her down, scrambling on the ground, she
Ecstatically slurs: "I need a life to dream, a dream to live."

Best lines in this poem. When you grow up in poverty, two things will happen. Either you accept that being poor doesn't affect your already rich and beautiful soul, or you will always keep looking over the fence, wanting more.

This poem means the world to kids like me, a validation of the conflicts and struggles we once endured. Thanks for the poem.
