The things you've taken

by Lisa   Sep 22, 2007

You've been taking from me,
since the day we met.
See on our first encounter,
you took away my breath.

You took away my sadness,
you took away my pain.
You took away my loney nights,
you took away life's strain.

You whispered to me softly,
"We will never be apart."
And on that most euphoric day,
that's when you took my heart.

You took away my fear,
said forever you would care.
You took away my liveliness,
for now you are not there.

You took away my slumber,
I can no longer sleep.
You took away my happiness,
leaving me to weep.

Appetite is gone now.
How did you take that too?
You just keep taking from me,
even though we're through.

So keep the heart you've taken,
do with it what you must.
I'm giving up on love now,
I'll simply stick to lust.

Lovely! I think this is a well written piece, full of raw and stinging emotion. The first stanza was great, and hooked me right in. Great flow and word usage in the telling of a story. Nicely penned!
