Mourning Sorrow

by Tate LaBianca   Sep 22, 2007

The passion
of sorrow,
gone
And with it,
the words
I wish to speak
Each tear that fell,
a verse of poetry
But the tears
are gone now
Replaced
by searing silence
Even for one
who has shown immeasurable kindness

Your words
have warmed me, friend
You seem to see
what others refuse
I wish
I could thank you
for your kindness
But still
the words refuse to come
So in verse,
I will tell you
though I know
only a little of you
I see
a rare wisdom
And a warmth
Sorely missed
in my own heart
but it frightens me
just a little...
I am unable
to believe
that anyone
could be so kind
and expect nothing
in return
But that
is all I have left to give
so many beautiful words before,
have only turned out
to be lies
And so many wounds,
I fear,
have finally numbed me.
And it seems
that I
am unwelcome
even in despair
I am left
only
with an empty smile
this false joy
that hides the tears
that will not come
But I would give you
that smile
in friendship.
It, and these words
Are all I have left
