Was It A Smile Which Did It For Me

by Joe Mahoney   Sep 23, 2007

Was it a smile which did it for me?
Which gave you control over my destiny,
To turn me, into I am now,
All I want to know is how?
Was I like a puppet on a string?
I would come running every time you ring.
People would say, as they walk on by,
What happened to you, oh why oh why?

Was it strength of another?
Which did this too you,
Come with us brother,
We will help change you too,
Hold out your hand son,
Your time is not done,
On this earth you are not alone,
No, you're not alone...

You created a wall of illusions,
For me to look right through,
I pushed past your memories,
I just don't want to remember you,
You tried to make them forget me,
But everyone could still see,
I stood in front of you,
I screamed, was it not true?
You told me the secrets, of your distant past,
My eyes had become blurry, it couldn't last,
You tried to change me,
Into something you could only see,
But these people around,
Showed me, that I stand taller than the ground,
They said...

Was it strength of another?
Which did this too you,
Come with us brother,
We will help change you too,
Hold out your hand son,
Your time is not done,
On this earth you are not alone,
No, you're not alone..

I stood through the light,
I showed you I could fight,
Through the darkness which surrounds,
The mark I wear shows I can stand my own ground,
You controlled me,
With every step I take,
You stood by,
And watched me wake,
From the dream of the nightmare,
We both rose,
And took one last pose...we are not alone!
