Leaves

by Dan Doyle   Sep 23, 2007

Leaves turn from green to a magnificent orange,
As does your heart, and your soul
There is no way to hide from the inevitable
The world does not stop, does not slow down

But while the leaves change, they are still leaves
They do not pretend to be anything but,
They don't mask themselves as stones or rocks
They are always leaves, and leaves they will be

You have put on your mask, hidden yourself
From all of the beauties of the world
Those that seek to lift your veil of truth
Have given up.. hurt and betrayed

And while you have gained so much
With your new found face
Much has been lost, perhaps forever
I bid you farewell

For once leaves fall from the tree
That is how they stay.
