We stand
and stare
on our opposite banks
Turbulent waters
racing past
In silent agreement
we walk
until we reach
the bridge
With trepidation
each step
brings us closer
until
we reach
the gap
It is a gulf
that seperates us
Merely
a lengthy stride
that either
could make
Yet
we stare
at the turbulent water below
waiting
for the other
to take that single step
a leap of faith
to bridge the gap
And so we stay
neither moving
nor speaking
as the waters churn
and the gap widens
It never occurs
that farther down
perhaps
there may be
an easier crossing
