Secrets In The Recipe Box

by Tracy D Rollings   Sep 25, 2007

I think of all the things
that go through ones mind
memories of my yesteryears
forever to be locked in time.

Remembering the childhood years
before the hard times set in
when life was so simple
the way it should have been.

Things that my grandmother done
as she kept the family on the go
and when we messed up
always there to let us know.

She told me make believe stories
that were made up in her head
all of them always happy
no one ever ended up dead.

Sometimes she would tell me about her
and how they made it through the years
there were a few that cracked me up
some that filled my eyes with tears.

But all the things that were taught
many lessons did I learn back then
there were many secrets given to me
that I will surely take with me to the end.©2007 Tracydr42

I love poems that have a story that is obviously personal to the writer and the reader is left wanting to understand it more.

i became hooked on your words, your imagery and emotion is fantastic. there was a kind of innocence to this poem that i loved.

    great work.

Wow this is a remarkable tale...very thought provoking. It flowed very nicely and I must say I was 100% engrossed in your poetic story from the first word to the last...I believe your title choice was perfect too. excellent job on this one. oh by the way you country boy "Things that my grandmother done" should be Things that my grandmother did. all in all good work 5/5

This piece really grabbed me!! Brought back memories of my grandmother and the secrets that she would share with me. If only now was as simple as back then...this piece just rocked from beginning to end!!
