She says she needs someone
As we'e sitting outside at a party
In the middle of the night
Music still plays in the background
But she's leaning on that railing
And when no one's around
She says "I'm lonely" and laughs
Through I can see past it
Oh and I can tell, she means it
I've known her for too long
She says wouldn't it be nice
To have someone to talk to
Then she looks away
And I'm praying that she knows
I'm here, to listen
To lean on when you need to
I'll listen to your cry
And encourage your dreams
No matter when you need me
I'll be here
We're walking down the hall
Trying to get to class
And she asks if what she's wearing
Makes her look fat
I tell her no in a heartbeat
But she's not convinced
And I'm starting to get scared
Because she asks me again
In a few days time
When did it get this bad?
I tell her, I think she's beautiful
Just the way she is
But I know she's faking a smile
And I'm praying that she knows
I'm here, to listen
To lean on when you need to
I'll listen to your cry
And encourage your dreams
No matter when you need me
I'll be here
I'm trying so hard
But I've ran out of things to say
It's killing me on the inside
There's one thing I know for sure
I'd never want to lose a friend
If only she could see herself
The way I see her
She would understand
And none of this would be the same
What does it take to make a change?
She says "I'm lonely" and laughs
Through I can see past it...
And I'm praying that she knows
I'm here
