Corruption

by Elaine Stamp   Sep 27, 2007

There's a false peace in the air
As if I'm descending hell's stair
I look up into the sun then look back to the ground
My anger increases; I can hear my heart pound
Betrayed by the one I used to trust
The mind was corrupted, taken by lust

False promises of friendship sundered my respect
Now it's like they insult my intellect
They try to assure me of supreme equality
I'm too mad to listen; I'm too angry
They try to pull me back, back into flowery lies
But I want to keep my eyes open, to just see the skies

So as I write this poem I think of you
Possibly the very last thing I want to do
I can't open your eyes; they're full of denial
The tension between us is tighter than vinyl
So hopelessly I stand and watch you sail away
Hanging my head I sigh. There's no more I can say...
