Not Knowing, Never Knowing

She kissed him goodnight
Relishing his lips
Not knowing
That tonight he'd slip

He drove off waving
And she wore a smile
Not knowing
The news she'd get in a while

She went inside
Happy and satisfied
Not knowing
That tonight was the last time
She'd see him alive

He was sober
Alert and ready
Not knowing
Another driver's eyes
Were getting heavy

She lay on the bed
Thinking of tomorrow
Not knowing
It would only bring sorrow

He couldn't see
The lights were too bright
The car slammed head on
Ending his life

She jumped as the phone rang
She answered with cheer
But as reality hit
Her eyes filled with tears

He lay in his casket
Cold as ice
Maybe the driver
Should've thought twice

She stared down at him
Tears running untamed
Knowing nothing
Would ever be the same

He was lowered
Into the ground
She stood there crying
But not making a sound

His life was taken
And it wasn't his fault
It never would've happened
If that driver had of thought

He shouldn't have drank
And started the car
Not knowing
Who's life he'd harm

Drinking and driving
Is never okay
You never know
Who might come your way
