BUTTERFLIES

by sw   Oct 1, 2007

She's just barely standing there
As her heart begins to race
A single clear brick tear
Scratches down her pretty face

Now she can hear his screams
crying out in pain
Only now she hears his voice
Calling out her name

But he's just lying there
with his best suit on
All his friends are here
But now hes gone

Why, why, why, why
Did you have to go
why, why, why, why
Your little girl want to know

But how could they know
what they could not see
In the darkness he lived
Where he would always be

With every breath of life he took
It seared his lungs in burning pain
He knew the sun would never shine
In a world filled with endless rain

A prisoner locked in an empty room
Concrete walls bound solid with despair
Drowning in an ocean of loneliness
His heart forever gasping for air

To wake up just one more day
Was more than he could bare
Oh how he wanted to stay
But his demons didnt care

A trembling hand wipes her tears away
for she's the only one that knows
The rest mourn for him today
But he died so long ago

He was a proud father
somebodies brother
He was fine son
to his brokenhearted mother

He was a good man
Thats what they'll say
He'll be sadly missed
With every passing day

Thoughts of butterflies arrived
When he kissed her goodbye
A thousand butterflies arrived
On the night he died
