No escape

by Jen   Oct 1, 2007

THUD THUD THUD,
I know those sounds,
Constantly growing closer.
Now there is no escape.

The last stair creaks under his weight

And suddenly there is silence

I lie there silently, holding my breath.
pretending I'm not there,
Anywhere but here.
But there is no escape

Cars pass on the street outside,
I scream for help, knowing what is to come,
But no noise escapes me,
Fear has stolen my voice.

Suddenly I can smell it,
faint, yet so clear,
the sweet sickly smell of alcohol.

The stench grows stronger,
He is not far now

I hear the metal groan under his hand,
The seconds seem an eternity
He closes the door firmly behind him,
and smiles

There is no escape now
