Out of Egypt

by Michael D Nalley   Oct 1, 2007

Out of Egypt, and into the desert where only the love of freedom sustains.
The pyramids will lie in ruins, while the hope of reaching heaven remains
The journey is hard, and long to the Promised Land, even after crossing the Red Sea
Even longer to know, and understand how much Egypt is left in you, and me

It is written that great structures were built with the labor of Hebrew slaves
Until the Pharaoh was defeated by the great power of the God who saves
The strength has always been in the covenant and not in the stone
The glory and the praise belongs to no one but the almighty alone

Out of Egypt where the great futile structures still have remained
While the faithful have journeyed toward a heavenly paradise regained
Some struggle with earthly pagan temptation where you can't be free
When the vanity of Egypt attempts to capture you, and me

That was so impressive. I could picture everything you're saying. 5/5

I liked how the ended reflected back to one of the previous stanzas. It brought the whole poem together, IMO. I really have nothing to criticize about this. The flow and wording was absolutely wonderful. And clear images were easily floating into my mind as I read.

    A wonderful piece.
