An Ode For Mankind

by Casey Dillard   Oct 5, 2007

Cruelty and punishment I'll show you my love
as both irony and hypocrisy descend from above
o father, o father, where art thou divine one
we've done this to ourselves and now your voice is gone
we have nothing to fall back on we are the killers of the peace
we are the ones who chose this fate it wasn't destiny
so devastation and poverty, fall across our barren world
because we couldn't embrace salvation as a complete whole
now we look towards the sky so eager for solution
but we can't have this promised peace without some type of retribution
and when the divine demands melodramatics we are not so great
and we refuse again his will and decide our own fates
for if we be not the masters of our life's and such
then who else be so great that everyone can feel their touch
so if i am not to blame then my neighbor he is wrong
honey load up the pistols get the bombs we're leaving home
and as we realize everyone else does feel the same
that their neighbor be so evil as we start this fight again
does this mean war honey, of course it means war ma'am
and I'll kill my worst enemy, myself, with my own hands
blasphemy and denominations, arrogance and hate
what more reasons have we to place this blame
and as mankind quivers cowardly at a deadly wars wake
we do nothing to change this damnation as its thrown back in our face
and a neighbor kills a neighbor and that country destroys another
for it is your fault, no your fault, that we blame this on the others
damn you who be my foe, by damn I who kill you aimlessly
because no matter who we point the finger the blame belongs to me
me the son, and you the son, and all the daughters too
we will all fall for what we've done and by the time we're through
we will all be broken of our spirits and our souls be painted black
our hands dyed the color red with guilt weight on our backs
with musty breath and rotten lungs, and tainted skin of green
we'll bow before our judgment day that this mankind shall bring
and when its all said and done and all this has come to pass
we'll have no one else to blame this cause we'll all be dead at last
and this is exactly what we wanted is it not? then i don't know
and God will cry for our ignorance as he looks on down below........
