Keep That Piece

Keep That Piece

You took what you pleased.
Left when you desired.
Kept me down on my knees
And stood so much higher.

Held my heart in the air
To show it was yours.
Let it dry in despair
While I crawled to your shores.

Like a dog, I would plead
To have you praise me
I'd go where you'd lead
Walk through your debris.

I took all unfair games
That you played with my heart
And still craved your name
When we were apart.

Desperate attention
It became what I craved
Some recognition
That you'd want what I gave.

It became oh so clear
I needed an out
But you'd leave me here
Filled with self-doubt.

Wondered if you'd care
If I were to leave
Would you still be there
I chose to believe.

But my beliefs failed
When you walked away
Your intentions veiled
By the light in your face.

My young heart broken
Too easy, too quick
You have your token
And took it bit by bit.

Keep that part of me
I'm rebuilding it's true.
I don't want the piece
That's still loving you.

    I don't want the piece
    That's still loving you.

Such beautiful last lines, and they pull everything together so wonderfully. Truly amazing all the way through. Great rhythm, great rhyme scheme, and the consistent feeling felt throughout the piece...powerful.

Yet another wonderful poem. Its all about the heartache and wondering. I often wonder how you write these poems so heartfelt. I hope and pray to whatever god is up there that you didn't have to endure the ordeals you write about.
Builds you up like a crescendo to the point where its almost a certainty that you will leave, then hits you with a sledgehammer when he walks out first.

Great lines, thats what every relationship is about .. wishing you had something the other person desired or wanted.

    Lovely poem Charisma.
    Keep it up.
