The Dash

The dash between the numbers
shows the days you spent on earth
that little tiny line
shows the events that have occurred

some don't fully realize
or can truly comprehend
what that line means to all of us
those who can understand are those who were a friend

that itty bitty symbol
is what we call your life
every single memory
feelings of happiness, of pain, and strife

That simple little marking
lets us all know that you were here
the number after it gets one number larger
with every passing year

There once was just four numbers
and then there was a line
there are not supposed to be numbers after it!
you were not supposed to run out of time

The first set of digits represented your birth
but now that you are in heaven
there is a little dash
between 1985 and 2007
