So Here`s to Yesterday

by HOLLYWOODxBANGBANG   Oct 9, 2007

I took a mirror to a picture of you last night,
Comparing the features I`ve come to love,
But from the right angle and the wrong light,
I could swear I seen your mouth move.
I thought it kind of funny at first, but then,
A reminder came over me to smarten up,
To learn from the past mistakes I`ve made;
`Cuz every time your mouth moves, you lie.
So I realigned my masqueraded composure,
Sat up straight and did my best to fix you --
I flashed a sympathetic smile so that maybe,
If my guilty conscience kicked in, it would see;
I`m not as cold hearted as I let off to be.
I stitched together your lips, closing them tight;
And I colored in your eyes, to make more sense --
Black for the blackest of all teenage hearts,
And permanent, so you`d never speak to me again.
I stabbed a knife into your back, twisting it in;
Hoping that it would hit a sensitive spot in you,
I tied a string around the handle of the knife,
So that I could play you like you played me.
I slurred out the best of lines I could think of,
All more vulgar than my sobriety led me to believe:
Poor judgment mixed with a little bit of alcohol,
It never did take me very far, did it?
`Cuz after all, it did bring me to the likes of you.
I`m a sucker for sweet talkers with bright eyes,
And Baby, you`ve got the whole package,
So it`s no question why I let myself fall, is it?
But when I took the time to catch myself,
Since we both know you weren`t going to,
I took the time to laugh at your intentions,
And what credibility you lost when you attempted them.
I know the places we went were pre-planned,
And the route in which you entwined your vines around me --
It was all in the deal, when I said that I loved you,
So how naive was I to fall for this game over and over,
When I seen the horns on your heart in the beginning.
I`m cutting the strings binding my heart to yours,
Leaving them free for my own amusement,
So that on a night where I`m feeling spiteful enough,
I can mess with your heartstrings, like you did to me.
You`re not the only heartbreaker in this room, kid,
Because at times like this, things are better in pairs;
Everyone knows, two heartbreaks make up for one;
So here`s to yesterday, when our hearts were whole,
And here`s to tomorrow, where there`ll be no you.

    Like I mentioned in another comment, I'm not fond of the style/form - though I do love the words, and the actual *writing*. It's wonderful.

    You never fail to amaze me.
