Empty Promises

by Kobe   Oct 9, 2007

He took her hand in his and kissed it,
Slowly, gently, caressingly,
He swept her hair back from her face,
Placing the second kiss on her lips,
All this time the tears roll down my face.

We were meant to be together forever,
At least that's what you said,
That we'd grow old together,
Have kids and build a home,
And like a fool, I believed you.

I even believed you when you said,
That it was just drinks with some friends,
That you were just dropping by work,
Even though the shop was closed,
I believed it all, because I was afraid to be alone.

It wasn't until I saw her car,
When she dropped you home at 2 a.m
That I realised my dream was now my nightmare,
So I packed my bags and left,
But you didn't seem to care.

So now I see you with her out on the street,
And remember what I thought used to be real,
And turn to kiss the man beside me,
Who treats me like you never did,
And made his promise with a ring.
