Dazed and Abused

Dazed and Abused

He's been out again
Working late hours
She's drowning herself
In a hot shower.

The pain is stinging
But keeps her awake
As she looks to reflect
On her biggest mistake.

She watches it glitter
Through tears in her eyes
Wish she could have read
Through sugar-coated lies.

But now that she knows
He doesn't even try
To hide what he's doing
On his late work nights

Once she tried to stand up
But got knocked back down.
Such a weak vessel
He can push around.

So her way of coping
Is laying in a tub
With a bottle of booze
And bruises to scrub.

They don't wash away
And memories don't fade
But for a few hours
They all turn to grey.

The doorknob rattles.
It's obvious he's back.
Her peace has ended
Over just like that.

He comes in to the room
To start up a fight
His conscience is dirty
And he doesn't feel right.

He tells her she's ugly
That she's not enough
And it's not fair of her
To expect him to love.

Then he hits her again
She refuses to break.
So he pounds and pounds
Till it's all she can take.

He leaves the bedroom
And watches T.V.
She goes to drown out
Her lifetime misery.

The ring on her finger
Is what keeps her there
But inside she knows
She just doesn't care.

A thousand tears shed
She is black and bruised
It's just one more night
Where she's dazed and abused.

That is extremely powerful! I mean the way you can make me envision this scene is amazing. And, too, how easily you can make him seem heartless and cold (borderline maniac) with the line about watching tv after he beats her half to death. Amazing job Charisma!!! :) 5/5 without a doubt!

Oo, i nearly cried at this one.
Its awful when someone used a loved one as a punchbag because they don't feel right at the way they are living.
And it's terrible how a ring can bind you for life..
    A chilling poem, well done
    5/5

"wish she could have read through sugar coated lies" <-- my favourite lines in the whole piece. they just held so much power and depth. the flow was good throughout and the imagery you painted was beautiful, it was like i could see everything that was happening. this is beautiful...heart breaking and filled with melancholy, yes. but still beautiful and elegant
