Be

by Nathan Collins   Oct 13, 2007

Would you shackle a rose?
Would you cage your child?
Would you limit the intricacies
Of a mind to meaningless words?
Do you suppose
That I am too wild?
Would you attach a collar
To the neck of a bird?

My roots need room to grow
My inner child-room to play
My starving mind needs an answer
To that terrible question

Why try to lock away
Something that you care for...

And let it...

Sit...

Rot...

Be anything less...

Than what it can be?
