As Swallows Migrate (Villanelle)

by Laura Lamarca   Oct 13, 2007

Alone here at dusk as swallows migrate,
And the night sky is all mottled in red;
Amidst this world that is fuelled by hate.

Black shadows flock forth and my eyes fixate,
On the loneliness of future's worn dread;
Alone here at dusk as swallows migrate.

My company flown, no tale to narrate,
Life in the balance - it hangs from a thread;
Amidst this world that is fuelled by hate.

A giver of love, a heart to inflate,
No peace to be found, rumours overfed;
Alone here at dusk as swallows migrate.

Give all of myself, surrender to fate,
Regrets asunder and words left unsaid;
Amidst this world that is fuelled by hate.

I'm a mere lesson - human template,
Just one of feeling, in life been misled;
Alone here at dusk as swallows migrate,
Amidst this world that is fuelled by hate.
