One Common Mission

by Jessica D   Oct 14, 2007

We see it everywhere! Everywhere the world becoming a place of teardrops and bloodshed, children going unfed. Around every corner hope's being lost. Freedom being earned at a greater cost.

Against the grain, against the calm of peoples' plastic smiles and stained class masquerades, I'm soldier, of one army, fighting for one mission: the future of America we are. What a future we could be!

We've all seen those commercials on TV. You know. The ones that say "Make something of yourself and join the army." My weapon of choice - my mind. Who's footprints I walk in. Who's shoes I walk in. My dreams - go to college. Make something of this nothing of a world we've let ourselves become.

Or at least something of myself. I have to, now more than ever. Really quick, before I go. Before I'm six feet under and no longer have control over what's put between the "1991" and the "?" under my "RIP" The dash in the middle says more than your myspace page. It represents life... My life. I'm a soldier fighting for that dash and what people will say when I'm gone. - "Upbeat," "Quick to laugh without holding back." "Heart was pure." "My favorite type of pizza - pineapple." "My fears - heights."

*My mission - the future. It won't end here!*

We see it everywhere! Everywhere the world becoming a place of teardrops and bloodshed, children going unfed. Around every corner hope's being lost. Freedom being earned at an ever-increasing cost. And in it, I am one soldier, of one army, fighting for one mission.

The future, and what a future it could be if we choose to make it...

United as one army.
