The Invisibles

by Corinne   Oct 14, 2007

An allegory/parable :-)

Perfectland was a peaceful kingdom
With greenest of grasses and bluest of skies
Nothing but sheer happiness shone
From nearly every citizen's eyes

Everyone smiled in Perfectland
Because they had families and beautiful homes
Except for those who had to pretend
They had no loved ones of their own

I'm a career girl," Meredith said
"No time for romance, or to go on a date"
"I'm a bachelor" said Antoine
"Say - Have you met Keith -my new roommate?"

They're the Invisibles; afraid to be shunned
By family and friends and left all alone
But what kind of life do you really have
When it's your own feelings you disown?

One day they chose to come out of the shadows
Vowing they'd be invisible no more
The Royal Bearers of Truth exclaimed
"You must disappear - and lock that door!"

The Invisibles cried: "We'll not go back!
Laws can be changed, and rules can be broken
Once we were scared, but now we're brave
We won't be silenced - OUR truth will be spoken!"

Wonderful write...the message you declared within your poem is amazing, and very true, sorry to sound repetitive but this is a very powerful write....well done. the flow was superb and the final stanza fit perfectly with the rest of the poem to add a remarkable conclusion to an even more remarkable poem. 5/5
