Star

by Brian Hwang   Oct 18, 2007

One day I wished upon a star,
To send me a girl who'd love me true;
Someone lovely, and filled with grace,
Someone I felt I always knew.

To my surprise, she showed up in my life,
And I thanked the star with all my heart;
For it sent me a girl made from bits of my dreams,
It sent me a beautiful work of art.

This girl listened to me, and spoke from her soul,
And she brought me laughter all the time;
She overlooked my many faults,
And always, made me feel sublime.

But to my dismay, she would not kiss me,
She would not offer to hold my hand;
I could not make love, to my love,
And this, I could not understand.

She made love to others, and kissed them as well,
She'd smile at me, but fawn over another man;
So I cursed the star, with all my heart,
I let out all the rage one man can.

"Why do you grant wishes, just to take them away?!
You cannot be a star from heaven!"
The star hearing this, shone bright in the sky,
Ane spoke to my soul at quarter past eleven:

"Do you remember your wish? I think you forget,
What you asked for, I surely did send;
Your selfish heart is blind, and cannot see,
I sent you true love, which is that of a friend!"

As the last word sunk, into my dull heart,
A tear strolled down my cheek;
I realized now, that the star had been right,
Indeed, my soul had been weak.

So I turned my head, back up to the sky,
And asked the star for one final last wish;
I asked that my friend's true love be forever,
The star would twinkle, and simply vanish...
