Straw Angel

by Angie   Oct 18, 2007

Straw Angel

made by tiny hands
around christmas time
a picture after many years
still so vivid in my mind

white felt, pipe cleaners, straw on the table
deep concentration on your precious face
little pink tongue sticking out
as you carefully cut and paste

once its all pieced together
a bright eyed smiling face I do see
as you hand me a straw angel
to place upon the tree

**Thank you Sunshine for the title toss**

Aww, this is so sweet, I felt it was like one of the little verses on cards, perhaps a mother and child occasion card!

I love the detail of the straw angel, and how we can see how it was made, but I think what makes this poem so special is that it highlights the importance of a gift that has been made, it is not the worth of the material, but the worth of time that went into it.

You show in this poem that the gift you look at, not only is lovely, but you can also remember every expression on the child's face as they made it, and then when they handed it over.

That is what makes this poem so touching.
    Very special <3
