Just Friends

She walked into school
Like she did everyday
Smiling at friends
As they came her way

She saw him coming
And guilt struck her heart
Knowing deep down
He'd liked her from the start

He greeted her
With a usual hug
And once again
She felt that tug

Was she leading him on?
But they were just friends
She didn't want to cause
Their friendship to end

She pulled away slowly
With a frown
She looked away
And stared at the ground

''We need to talk.''
She managed to say
Knowing deep down
Their friendship was at bay

As she explained
How they were 'just friends'
She noticed his smile
Was starting to bend

When she finished
He just walked away
Her heart sank low
Knowing she'd pay

He ignored her
As the days passed
Not saying a word
Silence continued to last

Finally unable to take it any longer
She approached him first
Waiting at his locker
Hoping she wouldn't make things worse

He rolled his eyes
When he saw her standing there
And she could feel tension
Swarming in the air

''We need to talk.''
She said once more
With her eyes fixed
Staring at the floor

When she finished
The feud came to an end
And they would go on
Being 'just friends'
