Trying To Be Me

by veeda   Oct 19, 2007

Who am I and who will I be?
I'm just a simple girl
fighting to find the real me
You look down on me,
but you don't know
about all the feelings I never show
I lie in bed and cry some nights
because I don't know if I'm wrong or right
the way I act,
the things I say,
am I being me or the person you want me to be,
One day I'll find me
One day you'll see
there's more behind this mask
of the little girl you see
Soon I'll find who I am
And who I'll be
Soon I'll know where I stand
without your shadow hanging over me

There is a lot of frustrated anger in this poem. I enjoyed its beat and found myself reading it out loud in an aggresive tone, almost spitting the words at some parental figure, perhaps!!? Imagining them cowering at my words of distaste, while you demand answers to your question....the sad reality is though, that these words are festering inside and not delivered to those thay are intended for.

A very good piece, one that sounds great when spoken out loud.

    Well done
