What Can I Say... I Shall Not Lie

by Twisted Heart   Oct 21, 2007

"What can I say, I shall not lie
It happened just this way
Me and Little Tommy Wright
Went in the woods to play.

A game of 'Hide and Seek' afoot
It was my turn to count
One hundred seconds then I looked
But no trace of him was found.

It was like he was swallowed up
Within the trees and leaves
And though I searched, with no luck
This truth, you must believe.

I'd all but given up the search
When I came upon a cave
And just inside a Raven perched
His claws upon his prey.

I noticed that the clothes were there
Belonged to Tommy Wright
I ran away, cause I was scared
It gave me such a fright.

Now, you may not believe me
But I swear this tale is true
I'd forgiven all the teasing
He had put me through.

I just wanted to play a game
I have no need to lie
It happened just that very way
How Tommy came to die."

Now all the town are looking
For that Raven in the trees
I take the cleaver, from my pack,
And hide it in the leaves.

Firstly I would just like to say that I love how you can tell a story. I find that my story poetry doesn't work as well as my cliched broken hearted tales do - so I admire those of you who can write something such as this. It was excellent. There was even a twist to the darkness. Your writing should one day take you to alot of places. Show people what you're made of! Write a book :P

Wow what a scary tale. Imagery is fantastic.

Now all the town are looking
For that Raven in the trees
I take the cleaver, from my pack,
And hide it in the leaves.

    I didn't expect this ending.
    Excellent job!

    Jeannie,
Oh wow, what a chilling tale. Sadly enough things like this happen every day. You have done an amazing job with the poem as always.
