Why Cant I Have A Heart of stone

by Toni   May 7, 2004

Why can't I have a heart of stone?

A heart of stone would not ache
It would never feel
All this pain that I must take
Pain that is too real

A heart of stone could not be worn
Blood it could not pour
It could never be harshly torn
Or left, sad and sore

A heart of stone would be best
It could not be used
It could never die in my chest
Or ever be abused

A heart of stone could not race
But only be still
Even when I see your face
It would have no will

A heart of stone would be numb
Could not circulate
It would never come undone
To feel all your hate

A heart of stone could not tear
Or ever feel the pain
For on my sleeve I could not wear
It could never be slain

A heart of stone you could not keep
It would be too cold
No emotions that are too deep
Could be ever told

A heart of stone you could not steal
It would never stray
Stone doesn't need time to heal
So lifelessand so grey

A heart of stone could survive
Although it might miss
Feelings of love so alive
When I feel your kiss

A heart of stone could stay strong
It could never beat
Mine has hurt for far too long
Burning in the heat

A heart of stone would not strive
Everyday to pump
My hurt and hate, it could not drive
Into a twisted lump

A heart of stone could always depart
It would never care
When we are so far apart
It wouldn't be aware

My mortal heart is so alone
Made of flesh and bone
A heart of solid stone would never
Have to be re-sown

Why can't I have a heart of stone
