Just Friends

I saw him walking towards me with a smile upon his face.
My hands began to tremble my heart began to race.

He put his arm around me and asked me where I've been.
He says "I've tried to call you I could really use a friend.

He said "I'm asking her to marry me and I want everything just right.
He tells me that he's thought it through and says tonights the night.

I tried to hide the shock as i asked him if he's sure.
He tells me that the time is right and he couldn't love her more.

The pain shot right through me and my heart began to break.
Surely this is a nightmare for this is more then I can take.

I lost my only chance now I can never let him know.
That I love him with all my heart but now i can never let it show.

So I looked him in the eyes as I tried hard not to cry.
"I'm happy for you" I heard myself say even though it
was a lie.

I started to walk away but he quickly grabbed my hand.
It's then that he saw the tears but said he did not understand.

"I thought that you would be happy and your not so tell me why."
"I hate to see you unhappy and I hate to see you cry."

He knows me far to well and to him i hate to lie.
He just looks so damn happy so i guess i have to try.

"I'm crying because I'm happy just like you should be."
"So go on and call me later stop worrying about me."

For a moment he just stood there looking at the ground.
Then he said "I'll call you later" and quickly turned around.

I watched him walk away then i quietly began to cry.
Then i whispered that i love you then i said goodbye.
