There once was a beautiful maiden,
Locked in a castle tower
High above the world of reality
In a world of self-pity,
Agony, desire, and self hate,
There she sat,
In the grasps of ugly fate
An image that isn't real
Overweight, underweight,
A desire to be first rate
Bad hair, bad taste, bad style,
How to change your profile
Imperfect skin, imperfect life,
All your dreams out the door
For that image, a great sacrifice
Every night and everyday,
She looked in that "magic" mirror,
And did not like what she saw
On that scale forever more,
Another dream out the door
She did not see what was real,
And that she was beautiful
She worked everyday for that perfect dream,
That perfect image,
That perfect nightmare
Strained her muscles,
And drained her brain
Skipped meals,
And ignored the pain,
To achieve the unreal
It took a while,
To come back down,
From that tower
After rains of pain,
And a shower of willpower
She looked in that mirror,
And saw her inner reflection
That a perfect waist line,
And a perfect complexion,
Is not the recipe for affection
So she jumped from that tower,
Into the real world
And learned that self image,
Isn't everything
That what's inside,
Is not left behind
We are all beautiful inside,
No matter what our appearances
Our imperfections define us,
And glows with pride
That's what's real
For those who think they have it all,
The models, the stars, and the popular,
They are not real,
And don't know how to feel
For those who can't see,
What's inside,
Let them speak,
For themselves
