I'm Too Young To Love America

by Bella   Oct 25, 2007

You can dress me in an American Flag
But I won't know the difference between freedom and geography
I'll know love when I see it
But I am too young to love America
I was born and raised here;
I didn't leave for a new life and starve to vote and own land,
I don't know any other life than the luxury of living here
All I know is our history and our language
Our policies and discriminations.
You can dress your baby in stars and stripes
But it will still cry.

    This isn't an anti-America poem. It's about learning, through experience, why I should love my country.

    I think that's better than just saying you do.
