The candle

by qawsee   Oct 28, 2007

As the one little flicker dies,
as the one hope I have is gone,
as the one chance of redemption I had leaves me
as the one spark of life flies

When the darkness comes,
will the candle of life,
shy away, afraid of the end,
or stand strong, with no fear of the scythe
will it flicker and pop, wax and wane
until it dies, never to be seen again

When the time of death comes for me,
when the final curtain calls,
when I accept the end and take fate by the hand,
when I release my soul from its shell and fall

As I sit here and think,
I realize my candle burns away,
the time on this earth we have
often ends this way
and as the final flicker comes,
as I watch the candle die,
do I have any regrets
will I leave this world with a cry

my final breath, the sickening loss of my candle
as I greet my death, his scythe cuts down to its handle...

I found that the start was very well done. I really thought that it was the best part of the poem.

I noticed that you need to put your "I's" capatilized. There are some parts where it confused me to read "When it darkness comes," I think it's suppose to be "When It's darkness comes" I'm not sure. It just doesn't sound right to me.

I really liked the smilie between the fact that a life force is always like a candle at times it flickers and at times it burns bright. I like that and felt the concept was very well thought of.
