Someday We'll Know

by Pete   Oct 31, 2007

Severed your ties as you head for the hills.
Instilled in your ideals is a life on your own.
Shown no remorse, pain, loss or contrite.
Despite having children that you've never known.

Three children show love that you've never returned.
Spurned our hearts in a way that we didn't deserve.
A nerve to speak of an upbringing you didn't partake.
Heartache, promotions, emotions you didn't observe.

Our formative years have long since gone past.
Aghast at the lengths of time you'd force us to wait.
Blatantly apparent that at us you're disdainful,
Painful in the knowledge of our anticipations abate.

Without you our lives are decidedly sour,
Our hopes are in session and about to adjourn.
Concern that someday we'll know to give up waiting.
Debating whether someday you'll ever return.

Wow. Well that certainly hit home. Extremely powerful. I often wander if my dad ever thinks about what he is missing out on. Sometimes, I just want to forget. But I think its virtually impossible for a child to write a parent off. No matter how much it hurts, I keep clinging on. But back to the poem. Absolutely amazing.

I loved the rhyming structure of this poem where the last word rhymes with the first word and the old faithful a,b,c,b hidden in there too.

A well thought out piece with excellent use of vocabulary.

    Well done mate
