Braving the Night

by Shane   Nov 3, 2007

To avoid dreams where I never sleep and that frightens me. To wake to a day like any other,
like today which offered some advice about tomorrow. Dreams that lead me to a stable where
horses take me by carriage somewhere I know but have forgotten-
a place where our minds make love and our glances join hands under
a moon meant to tell the hours have passed; to prove that its
real. Dreams are the residue of your path, one I follow alone and unnoticed. Dreams are Plato's shadow
in the cave, the sweet grapes of Tantalus desire that lead me to your form when I need a shape
to live in. The square of your sighs, triangular tears not fallen, not yet into circles
we walk together round. Walking till we've lost the senses that had us meet, forgetting that life
is cruel for a time- being one despite the resounding two that escapes your lips. Like the breath
that I hold on to without exhaling till night holds you tenderly and day rips you
in half.
