Holding On To Wasted Love (Trijan Refrain)

by Jenni Marie   Nov 7, 2007

Glass of cold whiskey in my hand
As I glare at the clock
Hours late, I don't understand
It's like all time has stopped
"Have one more shot," runs in my head
Realizing now I've been so blind
"Have one more shot,"
"Have one more shot,"
Raising the glass, taste most unkind.

Glass of cold whiskey in my hand
Praying you'll be here soon
Teardrops falling on wedding band
Sat in this empty room
Once more, you've gone away from me
Flirting with every girl you see
Once more, you've gone
Once more, you've gone
Just admit it, set my heart free.

Glass of cold whiskey in my hand
Heart cracking into two
Seems that I just can't understand
Why you've left me so blue
I'm holding on to wasted love
You just left when push came to shove
I'm holding on
I'm holding on
Can't let go of this wasted love.

**For A Contest.**

The Trijan Refrain, created by Jan Turner, consists of three 9-line stanzas, for a total of 27 lines.
Line 1 is the same in all three stanzas, although a variation of the form is not to repeat the same line
at the beginning of each stanza. In other words, the beginning line of each stanza can be different.
The first four syllables of line 5 in each stanza are repeated as the double-refrain for lines 7 and 8.
The Trijan Refrain is a rhyming poem with a set meter and rhyme scheme as follows:

Rhyme scheme: a/b/a/b/c/c/d,d refrain of first 4 words of line five /c

Meter: 8/6/8/6/8/8/4,4 refrain/8

This was wonderfully written. It brought a tear to my eye. Love evokes so many emotions we may feel as if we are on a roller coaster ride...in my opinion love is the sweetes pain.
The flow was great and I am always left in awe of your formed poetry!
