When you look up to fairytales
I guess your dreams are meant to crash
Like a sand castle next to waves
They were never strong enough to last

When you look up to cinderella
And aspire to have that life
With prince charming beside you
It hurts when things don't turn out right.

You could say I set myself up
For the disappointment I've seen
But then, that's what naive hearts do
Because their senses aren't as keen

We don't prepare for our downfall
Or kinks in our romantic ideals
It's like driving fast on a rainy road
Then braking on balding wheels

So forgive the tears I may yet shed,
The heart I still have to mend
It's just hard to face reality
When I'm oh so good at pretend.
