A Combination of Souls

by Matt Swanson   Nov 8, 2007

To desire love you cannot attain
To be in want for personal gain
Your words are pure, your heart on fire
We sail these straits, currents most dire

To voyage against time and fate
To make the heavens quite irate
I make a promise to you, today
May our friendship never sway

Give me what you think you owe me
Show me what you think I should see
Keep from me your biggest weakness
Tell me in our hour of bleakness

When things are waning
Feeling draining
Tell me what's going on.
I need to hear your voice tonight.

A million chances, dead romances
Your only mistake was loving too much
A thousand moments, broken memories
You may need one, but you are my crutch.

Down in the canyon, your tears were the river
Up in the mountains, it froze and you shivered
You think you couldn't have been more blind
And every lie will cloud your mind.

What hurts the worst is knowing the truth
I was one of those guys, the ones that hurt you
You're one of my best pals, through thick and thin
We always end up friends again...
