My Rock (Petrarchan Sonnet)

by Laura Lamarca   Nov 9, 2007

Saline sorrows slip freely down my face
on cheeks of confusion where fear remains,
as I hide my hurt this time, and again,
craving the warmth inside your strong embrace.
Sometimes a burden ~ I swim in disgrace,
yet your love and honesty never wanes;
e'en though I deceive to cover my pain,
I yearn to hold you and bask in your grace.
You've held me close over every mile
and given me strength when I nearly fell,
you've lent me wisdom and genuine smiles
even when I shouted and gave you hell.
My one companion...if just for a while,
you've given me pride to climb from my shell.
