Broken Vows

by Viola   Nov 11, 2007

There's times when she questions
What she's living for
She spend all her life building
Everything he broke
When he walked out that door
They'd been arguing for a while
But she just never thought
He'd break those vows he took
Twenty years ago at that old church
And as he slams the door shut
The tears she never thought she'd cry
Start falling at her feet
Someone came beside her
And hugged all night long
Not letting go for a minute
But she can't remember it much at all
And all that's registered of that night
Is the faint memory of his smell
And the insensitive look in his eyes
When he said, "Babe, I needed a change."
"This isn't about you
I just wanted something new
And I'm sorry, but we are through."
How can you let go of a marriage?
How can twenty years be erased?
These are the questions
Those that remain in her head
The bed is so much emptier
Without him by her side
But it's been two years since then
And he's moved on to better things
While she's alone finding out
That time doesn't heal everything

    Hi viola
It's been a while since I last heard from you :)
I absolutely love this poem, but mostly the ending. It really touched me. But I'm wondering: where did you get the inspiration to write about something like this? Cause writing about divorce, marriage is something you can't relate to, what so ever. You never experienced those emotions ; So I think it's a real challenge to write about something like that, and I admire you for taking this attempt. And it really worked out well for you. I love this :)
    Keep it up!
