A Lost Dream

by Marci   Nov 11, 2007

As a child you were alway told to make goals.
Make them big
"Shoot for the moon."
You are told to never give up
To take a chance
To think outside the box
To make something of yourself
To Live.

So you make these goals
And you make them your life.
You dream about them
And what it will be like when you reach them.
You work every day towards these goals
And you do get better, every day.
You think you are almost there...

But what do you do when DON'T fulfill those goals
When everything you have ever worked for comes down Into a pile of rubble.
When you FAIL.
When your self-confidence which you treasure so much
Is lost in the journey to find who you are
And who you are going to be.
What do you do then
How do you cope with the pain of losing a dream...
Losing your life...
They never taught us that
Did they?

Its because the emotion was real...and though I've overcome those days when I wrote this, I still believe it all the same. And I refer back to it sometimes when times get rough...Its amazing how much poetry can calm the soul.
