Too Little, Too Late

by Tammie   Nov 13, 2007

We've broken down on this highway,
And I've given all my spare change.
You haven't contributed at all,
And somehow I don't find that strange.

This whole trip was a sacrifice by me
I wonder, do you even know what that means?
From your body language and minimal speech
You don't care at all, or at least it seems.

I second guess myself and all that I know
To convince my heart you still actually care,
Cause my head is naive and oblivious
As long as you're by my side, it knows you're there.

Two cent contributions are too little, too late now.
It's over; someone came along and rescued me,
Like you never could, or would do unprovoked.
I'll drop you home, but that's the last of me you'll see.

You knew from the very beginning
All I had to offer you was my heart
I'm sorry that wasn't enough, but
At least I know now, we're better off apart.

This was another power piece by you, Tammie. The metaphoric choice of words here were perfect. I liked your choice of them, strong deep and held a punch. The meaning behind this just wow. It had me captured. A beautifully penned poem which was emotionally touching. Hit the heart deeply. Well done keep writing so I can keep reading. ~mel
