Eternal Sleep

by Justin Ellison   Nov 13, 2007

A single ray of moonlight hits your eye,
You stare into abyss.
The tick of time matters no more,
For your mind is the only thing that counts the seconds.
Dreaming has become a trap,
For you know it will be your last.

Loved ones surround the bed,
In their same sleepful positions.
Their eyes still wet from the tragic news,
Has led them to believe that all is lost.
You are the only one awake,
The way you wanted it to happen.

The doctors found no cure,
Their years full of research have lead them to nothing.
The week has now turned into a night,
The very thing you knew would exist.
Your thoughts go out the window,
As the snow falls gently to the ground.

You stare at your love,
Knowing that even her beauty cannot save you.
And then it happens with no warning,
The fate you once feared has now made its presence.
The cold begins at your heart,
And travels throughout.

The tear you shed will be your last,
As only seconds remain before it is done.
The ray of moonlight shines brighter on your eye,
You stare into it with no reason as to why.
No more mornings will exist,
Your eternal sleep, starts now.
