Like the flowers on your grave

by Lost and Confused   Nov 13, 2007

I visited you today for the first time since your funeral.
Your grave was still covered in all your flowers
but they were starting to wilt and die.
I can relate to those flowers because since you left
my heart is slowly wilting and dying too.
I try to keep our happy memories in my head
instead of the guilt and pain and sorrow
but the happy memories are what get to me the most.
I know that if I had just told you how I felt
that we'd have had so many more happy memories.
But now it's too late and you will never know
just how in love with you I was.
So like the flowers on your grave
my heart will continue to wilt and die.

Beautiful. I like the repetition of the heart/flowers metaphor. Very powerful. Keep it up. And, again, I'm so sorry.
