Keep That Piece

You told me this morning you're leaving me -
That there was nothing that I could do.
You told me that the time had come,
And this decision, you thought it through.

You held my hand, just one last time -
Then you gently kissed my lips.
You told me that you'd miss me a lot,
As your hands rested on my hips.

I cried as I begged you not to go;
The tears welled in my eyes.
You looked at me so sadly -
And all you could do was sigh.

You told me that you had to go,
I knew that you were right.
So as you picked up your bags,
I hope you'd be alright.

I watched the plane lift off the ground -
I crumbled to my knees and cried.
There was nothing that I could ever do;
It was like a part of me had died.

With my hands pressed onto the glass,
I blew to you my last kiss goodbye.
As you traveled halfway across the world -
Your magic carpet ride in the sky.

My little solider, all big and so tough,
Off to the front to fight.
All I can do is love him and care,
And hope that he'll be alright.

As I stood back up, I realized something
And my wall of tears was released:
When you left, I lost part of my heart.
I just want you to Keep That Piece.

    Excellent poem. Wonderfully written. Such a captivating and sad love story. I love poems that tell stories. You've expressed your emotions beautifully in this poem, the flow was amazing as well as the rhyming. The ending was also very well done and I loved how you incorporated the title into the last line.

    5/5 Definitely

    Take Care!
