A Second Chance

by RB   Nov 16, 2007

You say you need a second chance,
To right the wrongs you've done,
But no wrongs may be righted,
In this tangled web you've spun.

Your deceitfulness implied
That you never really cared,
For all the love I gave you,
The secrets that we shared.

Refused to believe it,
So I looked passed the lies,
Yet all along I knew the truth,
For it lay within your eyes.

Secrets are a burden,
They tend to weigh you down,
Continuing to hide them,
You're only going to drown.

So I just carried on,
Hoped you'd come around,
Yet silently at night,
My tears fell to the ground

Then I came to realize,
Your heart was not pure,
Your lack of love a sickness,
That I could not cure.

I knew I had to leave,
For no longer was I sane.
My heart already broken,
Bleeding out the pain.

Vanished from you life,
I found an inner peace,
Confronted all the anger,
I needed to release.

I stopped caring about you,
Laughed at the life you led,
Then you came back to me,
And this is what you said.

Please give me a second chance,
To right the wrongs I've done,
I've now learned how to love,
No longer do I run.

I looked you in the eye,
Laughing as I spoke,
No longer did I care,
To me you were a joke.

You asked for a second chance,
To right the wrongs you'd done,
But no wrongs were ever righted,
It was a tangled web you'd spun.
